Vancouver (Canada)/ The provincial government of British Columbia (BC) in Canada has officially declared “Nepal Heritage Day.” From now on, May 29 will be permanently celebrated every year as Nepali Cultural Heritage Day.

With this announcement, the Nepali community living in Canada has expressed happiness saying that it has achieved a historic achievement. It is believed that Nepal Heritage Day will make a significant contribution to establishing Nepal’s identity, including the Nepali language, culture, traditions, and Mount Everest, at the international level.

Earlier, a Nepali delegation led by Nepal’s Ambassador to Canada Bharatraj Paudyal and Nepal Cultural Society of British Columbia (NCSBC) President Raju Bhattarai was welcomed with state honours at a special event organized at the BC Legislative Assembly (Parliament Building) in Victoria on Thursday.

On the occasion, meetings and discussions were held with the BC government’s Minister of Employment and Economic Development Ravinder Kahlon, Deputy Premier and Attorney General Niki Sharma, Minister of Mines and Critical Minerals Jagrub Brar, MP Amna Shah and other high-ranking officials. The national flag of Nepal was also hoisted outside the Parliament Building along with the provincial flag of British Columbia.

BC government ministers have called the Nepali community “a priceless asset to British Columbia” and praised the contributions Nepalis have made to education, business, and building a multicultural society.

Speaking at the event, British Columbia President Bhattarai said that this achievement is the result of years of continuous efforts, sacrifices and unity of the Nepali community. He highlighted the need to be more organized to pass on the Nepali language and culture to the new generation.

Following the declaration of Nepal Heritage Day, a grand “Nepal Heritage Day Celebration Gala” will be held tomorrow, May 30, at the Taj Park Convention Center in Surrey, Vancouver.

The event will be attended by BC Premier David Eby, Nepalese Ambassador Bharatraj Paudyal, federal MP Sukh Dhaliwal, Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, and more than 700 Nepali and multicultural community representatives, according to the organizers.

All tickets for the event were sold out weeks in advance, confirming the high level of interest and enthusiasm among the Nepali community, according to organizers.
