Nepal to Participate in an International Ice Skating Competition for the First Time

Kathmandu/ Nepal is set to make history by participating in an international-level ice skating competition for the first time.
The Short Track Speed Ice Skating Competition, organized by the Indian Ice Skating Association in collaboration with the Asian Ice Skating Union and the International Skating Union, will feature participation from Nepal with two female and four male athletes.
According to Achyut Khanal, President of the Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association, the competition will be held from December 28 to 30 (Poush 12–14) at the Himadri International Ice Skating Rink Center, located with in the Maharana Pratap Sports Complex in Dehradun, India.
Representing Nepal, Ramesh Moktan and Arun Khatwe will compete in the Senior Men’s 1000 meters event. In the Junior Women’s 500 meters, Pari Guragain and Alka Ghimire will participate, while Javier Jung Thapa and Sayon Aryal will compete in the Junior Men’s 250 meters category.
Team manager Rumpa Sanju Shrestha and association General Secretary Satya Thapa will also accompany the team as officials.
While bidding farewell to the Nepali skating team, Nepal Olympic Committee President Jeevan Ram Shrestha stated that this historic participation is a moment of pride for the country.
He expressed confidence that ice skating, as a Winter Olympic sport, is well-suited to Nepal’s geography and believes Nepal can achieve medals in the future through this sport.
Additionally, the Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association is an applicant national federation of the International Skating Union.
