Frankfurt Book Fair Embraces Nepali Literature Germany

October 18 / At the world-renowned Frankfurt Book Fair held in Germany from October 15 to 19, two Nepali creators—poet and lyricist Sagar Phuyal and writer Raman Jaiseri—participated this year. Sagar Phuyal, who has carved out a distinct identity in literature, poetry, and songwriting, has published two works: “Anjulima Thapna Pae” and “Aafailai Khojna Man Chha,” with a third soon to be released, as he shared at the event.
Phuyal has written lyrics for half a dozen songs, most notably “Timi Hau Sabthok Mero,” performed by singer Shiva Pariyar and featuring actress Miruna Magar. The song has captured the hearts of more than five hundred thousand viewers on YouTube. Similarly, writer Raman Jaiseri read stories from his collection “Katha Hun Katha Hainan.” He explained how the book captures the realities faced by immigrants living in Germany, sharing that expressing his heartfelt thoughts in Nepali feels easier than in English or German.
The program was hosted by Harprit Kaur, a member of the Expat Advisory Council in Kelkeheim, with special guest Dr. Adriana Maximo Dos Santos, Vice President of Frankfurt. Both writers read excerpts of their creations in Nepali and English during the event. The Frankfurt Book Fair, considered the world’s largest, sees over 200,000 participants annually.
However, the presence of Nepali authors remains rare. This year’s participation was made possible through the coordination of Shiv Adhikari, president of the non-profit “Nepali Samaj,” who has actively served the Nepali community for the past two decades.
